The searches had to be voluntary...

...HOWEVER, it seems like the Boston SWAT teams relied on intimidation and fear tactics to get people to willingly allow them to enter certain homes and walk all over people's property as evidenced by the statements made by the homeowners in this video:

Here is an officer asking a resident if their house was secure at their front door and then calmly leaving:

On the other hand, here is a squad of officers yelling and pointing their weapons at a home's residents, scaring everyone into going outside. I feel like the Boston police may have actually had some kind of warrant to search this house:
