I don't see a voluntary system

taking root without something drastic, at least pragmatically. But your quite right, we do need something where every individual can move in their own direction, towards something they find prosperous. I see some people trying to move towards a sort of localism, but I don't see them getting any real sovereignty out it yet. The Federallies probably don't want to give up their authority if they can help it. Perhaps if a few states have succession out of the union, then you could at least move to the best free state of your choice and a bit of competition would ensue. But, it's hard to get competition when the system is slanted towards collusion. That's why I really like the idea of competing currencies. Perhaps, that's a path forward.
