People who ask this question are thinking of the old America

That is when you knew you could get your own lawyer, a public trial with a real judge and a jury of your peers, and a right to question your accusers. Now that the government disregards the rule of law and claims the power to ship you off to gitmo indefinitely with only a kangaroo court trial (or not) those quaint ideas no longer apply.

Used to be, when the FEDS came by to arrest you the best option was to go along with them and let your lawyer sort it all out. The FEDS have chosen to change all that. Like the scripture says, even as a man sows, so he shall reap.

Localism is for people who can still sleep at night even though somebody they don't know in a city they have never been is doing things differently. ("Localism, A Philosophy of Government" on Amazon for Kindle or Barnes and Noble ebook websites)
