...belief is that all of those whom God allows to be taken out of this phase of life, whether through war, disease, calamity, etc. are all still being called and drawn to Him in the aions to come, and that their journeys of reconciliation through and to His Love continue as their lives continue. If I did not have the hope that Love is greatest and will reconcile all things, I would feel much the same as you about the short-term earthly deaths, in that it is disturbing. I do know that God is also quoted in the OT as saying He has no pleasure in the death of anyone, including the wicked. So, if you are open to viewing things in the broader, long-term story, it is comforting to know that all shall be well, all shall be reconciled in the end.
I choose to follow Christ's emphasis on the two greatest commandments: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind; love your neighbor (including enemies) as yourself.
If I was not confident that God is Love and that all of the short-term consequences of evil will be resolved in the following aions, I would have difficulty following the first of these commands.
