Cops have a monopoly on law enforcement. There are no market signals to regulate the behavior of police officers or guide the level of protection needed in an area. The amount of security or protection needed throughout society is not homogeneous. Different areas require different levels of protection and security. Currently, police forces are funded by tax payer dollars and decisions related to the level of defense or surveillance needed in a given area is handled by bureaucrats, not the market. With the currently monopolized police forces and the excessive amount of laws in the country we are left with police officers pestering, and unfortunately killing harmless ladies in church parking lots. Without a security system that answers to the market, resources will continue to be misallocated and more innocent people will die at the hands of rouge cops that have no fear of market backlash.
