I have a cheap flip-phone with Virgin Mobile. $30 a month for 1500 minutes, 1500 texts. The phone costs about $20 with no annual plan, so if it falls in the toilet, you can easily replace it.
The phone is more than sufficient for staying in touch with family and friends, having a phone when seeking new employment opportunities, and emergencies.
The only new technology in our household is a laptop and a nice camera. I'm doing just fine without a tablet, tv, smartphone, etc... but for those that need or enjoy using other products and services, good for them... is that not how the free market should work?
