Comment: This is a tough one

This is a tough one

I do not know enough about the laws in Florida to criticize the jury.

But

The laws of scripture can be used to shed light on this. Can someone comment on how this passage might apply? Exodus 21:18-19

"And if men strive together, and one smite another with a stone, or with his fist, and he die not, but keepeth his bed:
If he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be quit: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed."

Was this a fight that Zimmerman could have avoided?

By choosing to confront Martin with force, does he not accept the liabilities mentioned in Exodus? That is, at least the liability for your opponent's medical bills and lost time, and possibly even the death penalty if that opponent is killed.

That's my train of thought at the moment. Maybe some one can straighten me out here.
