As so many have, when you state "He committed no crime" you are incorrect. It is illegal to assault someone period, and that was the first "crime" that was committed. If you assault a concealed weapons permit holder in such fashion then the results will be the same most every time. It appears by texts, face book, and his actions that he was a thug in training and thought he would teach the "cracker" a lesson, and the rest is history. But your "assumption" is that Zimmerman could have followed him in his car through the yards of neighbors, when looking at the layout, this was impossible.
His actions not only strengthen the gun rights debate, it is now clear to all that if one was to get assaulted to a point of losing consciousness, then one is well within their rights to stop that threat via deadly force. Zimmerman; were he the wild vigilante the media portrait him to be, would have gunned him down before he could get close enough to hit him, he would have put several rounds into Martin ,yet one shot stopped the assault, and he responsibly stopped firing.
Until you have been beaten, and feared that a criminal would take your own gun to kill you (whether Martin went for the gun or not), then to preserve your life you must stop the assault, and deadly force is then justified as we saw by the verdict. The emotions you feel are clear, but they are not fact as presented by your "if Zimmerman had" statement, because the reality is that he did not, so the point is mute, and the prosecutor's presented no evidence to suggest otherwise. The presumption is also that Zimmerman's goal was to take this kids life is incorrect, as when carrying a concealed weapon you are taught to fire until the threat has halted, I would dare guess it was not Zimmerman's wish to kill this guy, only to stop the beating, yet the bullet in the dark was fatal, i am sure he wishes that this kid had lived and recovered, and his life would not have been turned upside down by a agenda driven media, a race bating Sharpton, and the spite of those that do not realize that it is not o.k. to assault another individual because you do not like the questions they are asking you.
