Zimmerman was clearly in the wrong - he had overstepped whatever he thought he had. Apply this to your own life.

A lot of people think, for instance, that they have the right to use deadly force against an intruder entering their home. And perhaps they do. But if you take a shot at the intruder, with a gun or your fists and DON'T succeed in immediately killing him - then HE has the right to defend his own life by killing YOU. Even though he is clearly in the wrong (by being in your house) he does not have the obligation of simply allowing you to kill him. He may very well and legally kill you instead.
