Agreed, but there's another way to view it

From what I've seen, the number is around 8 hrs/week and I find that virtually a waste of time.

But instead of working 8 hrs for 40 years (today's average career), what if we worked 40 hrs for 8 years? Doing that, you could retire early and provide 4 more people with a paid career in that original 40 year period.

On top of that, the first guy would get all his money much earlier so he could avoid time-based costs like loan interest, overdraft costs and insurance robbery. On the purchase side, he could replace 'planned obsolescence' based crap products with high quality items that lasted. These are some of the ways that the rich have their current advantage over the poor today. Making these practices available to the future poor people would do much toward equalizing things.
