Missed the original Assassin's Creed, but played AC II, Brotherhood, and Revelations. Got AC III a little while ago, and really didn't care for it. The main character was not compelling, and motivations often seemed manufactured (or missing). There were some neat parts, but it paled in comparison to its predecessors. The naval battles were pretty good, which I'm sure they are using as their basis for Black Flag. I'll give it a go.
AC III jumped around a little on both sides of either fighting for liberty or casting the Founders as 'doing the right thing for the wrong reasons' (at best). I have no problem with suspension of disbelief and can take a fictional story based on historical figures and places, but..... yah.
