I see comments, such as the last one about Romans 11:26 -"And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: It's verses like these that make people believe that Israel is a particular group of promise and that this group of promise has never really changed...and if you are part if this group, Jews, and you are part of that "Group of Promise", by birth only....

Now let's look at Romans 10:1 Brethren, "My heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they MIGHT BE SAVED." Operative word is "Might be" other words you can't get to heaven by birthright!

After Vatican II – (Catholic statement) Jewish messianic expectation is not in vain. It can become for us Christians [Catholic] a powerful stimulant to keep alive the eschatological dimension of our faith. Like them, we too live in expectation. The difference is that for us the One who is to come will have the TRAITS of the Jesus who has already come and is already present and active among us.” (“The Jewish People And Their Sacred Scriptures in the Christian Bible,” Pontifical Biblical Commission, 2001, Vatican Translation.) – Ratzinger wrote the preface to this document.)

Why did the Jew’s of Jesus’s era reject him as the Messiah?

On the eve of the Passover Jesus was hanged. For forty days before the execution took place, a herald went forth and cried, 'He is going forth to be stoned because he has practiced sorcery and enticed Israel to apostasy. Anyone who can say anything in his favor let him come forward and plead on his behalf.” But since nothing was brought forward in his favor, he was hanged on the eve of the Passover. Ulla retorted: Do you suppose that he was one for whom a defense could be made? Was he not a Mesith (enticer), concerning whom Scripture says, “Neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him” (Deut. 13:9)? With Jesus, however, it was different, for he was connected with the government. [Sanhedrin 43a]
The Bible does not state that a herald preceded the death of Jesus! In fact the Bible says that there was a hasty, secret trial the night before his execution which was performed the next day. But Jewish law required a Herald! So the Talmud is inaccurate on this point.

Samuel B. Nahmani (4th century CE.) declares a curse on “Those who calculate the end” from the Book of Daniel” [f]or they would say since the predetermined time has arrived, and yet he [The Messiah] has not come, he will never come.” [Sanhedrin 97b]

What is meant by ‘but at the end it shall speak [yafeah] and not lie?’ – R. Samuel B. Nahmani said in the name of R. Jonathan: Blasted be the bones of those who calculate the end. For they would say, since the predetermined time has arrived, and yet he [Jesus] has not come, he will never come. But [even so], wait for him, as it is written, though he tarry, wait for him. Should you say we look forward [to his coming] but He does not: therefore Scripture saith, And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you. But since we look forward to it, and He does likewise, what delays His coming? – The Attribute of Justice delays it, why do we await it? – To be rewarded [for hoping], as it is written, blessed are all they that wait for him.

Rab said: All the predestined dates [for redemption] have passed, and the matter [now] depends only on repentance and good deeds. .” [Sanhedrin 97b]

So in other words as scholars know when you calculate the time of the Messiah using Dan 9 as the prophetic template, you come to one and only one Messiah only and that is JESUS CHRIST. But they [Jews] rejected him. And the Stone that was rejected turned out to be the CAPSTONE [JC], the Foundation. So they reject Jesus as the Messiah that their own scriptures point to and say Blasted be the bones if you try to calculate why he didn’t come!

So what are the Jews of today expecting with the 2nd coming of Jesus?
The Jewish Messiah – Yeshua

Yeshua is seen as a Pharisee of the school of Hillel who will fulfill Jewish nationalistic ideals. The Messianic Messiah is concerned with Judaism and national deliverance, whereas the Christian Messiah is concerned with individual salvation.
Jewish messianic expectations cannot be divorced from ritual Judaism and blends with Christian dispensationalism which lends itself to and exclusivity Gospel. This Yeshua whom they are waiting for will fulfill the very same promises that they were hoping would be fulfilled [but weren’t) in the 1st coming. So the Christian expectation differs somewhat from the Jewish one.

“And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, He [Jesus] answered them and said The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! Or Lo there! For behold, the kingdom of God is within you. [Luke 17:20-21]
So this Messianic kingdom of Israel, (Literal Israel) the Bible says and Jesus said will not come by observation. Meaning: - The formation of a physical literal state of Israel plays no role in the 2nd coming of Jesus! Because the “Israel” that is being referred to are the believers of Jesus Christ, not a piece of land. The Hebrew Bible was not about Israel and its National Heritage but about the Messiah.

2 Corinthians 3:14 - But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

Paul says that if you have these [Nationalistic] expectations and you miss the culmination which is Messianic in Christ, then you have missed something. NINETY SIX PERCENT OF PEOPLE THAT CALL THEMSELVES CHRISTIANS BELIEVE THIS NATIONALISTIC EXPECTATION!

The Jews Chose Israel over the Messiah

The He was the Prince of Peace; His coming must be as the unsheathing of a sword. The kingdom He had come to establish was the opposite of that which the Jews desired. He who was the Foundation of the ritual and economy of Israel would be looked upon as its enemy and destroyer. He who had proclaimed the law up Sinai would be condemned as a transgressor. He who had come to break the power of Satan would be denounced as Beelzebub. No one upon the earth had understood him, and during His ministry He must still walk alone. Throughout His life His mother and His brothers did not comprehend His mission. Even His disciples did not understand Him. He had dwelt in eternal light, as one with God, but his life on earth must be spent in solitude. [Desire of Ages 111.3]

The Jews of the time wanted Jesus to fulfill their nationalistic expectations by smiting their enemies, but Jesus said: “Love thy neighbor”. - And they asked I thought you were supposed make us the richest people of all. Jesus said - The meek shall inherit the Earth. He wanted them to make Israel the most powerful country in the world and Jesus said – Do onto others….
The Christians and Jews that believe a physical state of Israel must exist before the second coming of Jesus have the same nationalistic expectation that the Jews of Jesus’s time did. They missed it the 1st time, will they/you miss it a second time?

“Consistent literalism is the heart of dispensational eschatology.” (Charles C. Ryrie, Dispensationalism Today, Chicago, Moody Press 1967, p 158)
This would mean that if we read the Old Testament literally by itself without the New Testament as its expositor. Christ will have to reign on a literal throne of David and the ancient Nations such as Edom, Moab, and Ammon will have to be resurrected to serve a literal Israel.

Hebrews 8:1 – Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest [Jesus], who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;

But according the Jews and Dispensationalists, Jesus will have to descend from heaven in order to sit on an earthly throne of David. As I mentioned earlier, at Vatican II, (Of which Pope Ratzinger wrote the forward) it was said that the Christ that is to come will “HAVE THE TRAITS OF JESUS”, but it won’t be him!

Isaiah 11:14 – But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand up Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon will obey them. [Israel]

These nations don’t exist! Are they going to be resurrected to they can fulfill the prophecy of literalism?

True Christianity says here on planet earth we have no continuing city…In other words a physical land called Israel didn’t appear again until 1948. We are waiting a heavenly city whose builder and maker is God.

Dispensationalists/Jews - Believe there was /is a continuing city [The state of Israel] They are watching and earthly continuation of a city that will culminate in the kingdom.

Hebrews 13:14 – For here have we not continuing city, but we seek one to come.

Hebrews 11:10 – For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

That is another city….Not physical Jerusalem. This city comes down as a bride from Heaven.
