I agree with the first part

Taking out gluten may be the key to those diets. I say may be, because some people are fine with eating gluten. It is an individual thing. You have to factor in your genetics, your level of physical activity, eating patterns, and sleep patterns. Being Asian does not help :)

I was into the no grains thing for a long time, but my body just craves starch, because I am physically active. I still try to minimize gluten, but I think corn, rice and potatoes are ok in moderate doses. Potatoes are actually pretty good food. You could survive on just potatoes and butter. Plus, if you are into self-sufficiency, it's pretty much impossible to feed yourself without growing potatoes as a staple.
