I don't see how this is in Apple's interest

It sounds plausible, but Android will side-step on many levels in a heartbeat, driving more people to use Android devices.

And by plausible, I'm not sure. Apple would have to have the ability to interact with the OS and if they do, the Android OS can be changed. Or, there would have to be an app installed that will intercept an intent to use the camera and do nothing with it or pretend to do something. That could get unwittingly installed, but we'd figure it out.

But in any case, if it can be done, it can be countered in multiple ways so they'd only get a short window, maybe one protest's worth, to pull it off.
