I am tempted to just say "there you have it!"

but to be straight, I'd have to point out that you are incorrect. There is "law" on the issue, even if not from Congress. There is caselaw.

So, no, you don't get away with 1. not knowing the law 2. claiming the law supports your position then 3 when called on it, claiming there is no law.
