Same here... that includes their media surrogates.

James Clapper included a cover page alongside the documents that states:

"These releases also reflect the Executive Branch's continued commitment to making about the Government's implementation of Section 702 publicly available when appropriate and consistent with ensuring the protection of the national security of the United States."

The truth is they were forced by a federal court order to release the records. He makes no mention of the legal case they lost to EFF under the Freedom of Information Act.

The Guardian is one of the only media sites I have seen that actually mentions the EFF case as the reason for the release... the government's media surrogates on the other hand are spewing out their misleading White House talking points.
