wut? thousands of folks for

wut? thousands of folks for little reason?

crucifixion was reserved for serious political criminals...

also, as has been pointed out by many christians, it was the very propriety with which the roman pilate, acted, that made the act significant as redemption for all humanity. he acted correctly with all the authority and legitimacy of the roman law. if he was merely some tyrant, rogue, or criminal, or the representative of some band of savages, the crucifixion could hardly mean what it does. humanity, acting in its highest rung of proper authority, as it was conceived at the time, killed the son of god.

whether you believe the tale or not, it is only meaningful if you conceive the roman authority as deeply legitimate.
