Notice how this is happening while Congress is out of session?

... Hardly a coincidence, in my opinion.

Rep. Thomas Massie (KY-04) has introduced a bill, "The War Powers Protection Act of 2013," that would block the Executive Branch from sending unauthorized military aid to Syrian rebels. Links:

While the House is not scheduled to be back in session until September 09, I think we should raise the awareness of our individual Representative now, since war appears imminent. I therefore emailed the following letter to my Congressman, Ron DeSantis (FL-06)...

Please Cosponsor H.R. 2507

Dear Congressman DeSantis,

As your constituent, I write to ask you to cosponsor H.R. 2507, "The War Powers Protection Act of 2013." Introduced by Rep. Thomas Massie (KY-04), this bill would block the Executive Branch from sending unauthorized U.S. military aid to Syrian rebels.

Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution gives Congress—not the President—the power to declare war, and H.R. 2507 prohibits any military assistance to Syrian opposition forces unless Congress formally does so. For far too long, Presidents of both Parties have been disregarding the Constitutionally mandated prerogative of Congress to declare war before hostilities commence, and it is past time for Congress to appropriately proscribe unilateral Executive Branch military engagements.

My understanding is that H.R. 2507 has been referred to the House Intelligence Committee, and I am concerned that it will remain bottled up there. I therefore ask that you not only cosponsor this important bill, but that you do everything that you reasonably can to get it out of committee and on to the floor, where it can be debated and voted upon by the entire House.

Thank you for your time, and thank you in advance for responding to let me know where you stand on this important matter.

If the Administration engages in a military attack, I intend to email my Congressman again, urging him to condemn the unauthorized, unconstitutional action and reiterating my hope that he will support the Massie bill.

Liberty patriots, please contact your Representative now and encourage support for H.R. 2507, and be prepared to follow up with further contact should the Administration launch an attack. We need to get Congress focused on this issue, for, as the linked article in the OP notes, "it is Congress that is once again standing by and doing nothing more than abdicating its responsibility. The Congress of the United States and the Congress alone who holds the authority to declare war. Once again Congress will say nothing as this action is taken and merely react later."

Let's do more than just talk about this on Daily Paul, folks!
