I wouldn't say it sucks. I really enjoyed the book. It was a marvelous history of US Presidents. I have recommended it to lots of people from all different political spectrums. It is definitely written from a libertarian philosophy, but every author has an axe to grind and even the average person who wants a stronger central gov(tyranny) can enjoy the history in the book.

It does point out that Jefferson ran a military blockade along the eastern coast and people were starving from the shutdown in international commerce due to the enforcement of the Embargo Act. I don't have that the book handy to check. But I don't remember the author giving Jefferson low marks. The two things I remember that he dinged Jefferson on were the Louisiana Purchase and the enforcement of the Embargo Act.
