Why not stop all cooling to Fukushima cores, let em melt down

Why not stop all cooling to Fukushima cores, let em melt down -- literally -- to 2,000 degrees, so they sink miles into the crust of the earth, below the water table, so we never have to deal with them again? Is there a risk of a core explosion above a certain temp? Is that temp higher than the melting point of the surrounding bedrock?
