The quote in the OP is not a prayer.
In fact, it is simply a quote from a wise person, much like "two hands engaged in labor can accomplish more than a million hands clasped in prayer". Even many non-believers and non-religious people look to the Book of PROVERBS simply for enjoying the value of reading age-old wisdom. I enjoy the Book of Proverbs much as I enjoy reading ancient Buddhist wisdom. Here's one of my all time favorite ancient Buddhist wisdom quotes... "Do not seek the truth, merely cease to cherish opinion." The quote in the OP is not different from your quote or mine in essence. It is not a prayer. Perhaps your anti-religious bias has clouded your perspective as much as you've imagined holbrook's religious bias has clouded his/hers.
