I wonder, though...

...if a distinction should be made here between praying to someone as if they're God, and simply making prayer requests as we do to other people on earth.

If Mary was here on earth still, we wouldn't think it odd that someone would ask her to pray for them, any more than we would think it odd to ask our own mothers or our pastors or our friends to pray for us. That is a type of intercession on another's behalf -- praying for each other.

So if someone believes that those who have passed away can actually hear and see us from the world beyond (which is probably a grey area?), why would they not continue to share prayer requests with these people, just as they would ask them to pray if they were still on earth?

I'm not Catholic, but I have a feeling that 'sharing prayer requests' is maybe a good way to frame the discussion?
