I never went so far as to rationalise my welfare

I never went so far as to rationalise my welfare benefits, which are slim since we're square in the middle of the middle class. But my kids' school offers free breakfast and free lunch, so we sign a form to let them have it (Its Michelle's recipes, so they often come home starving).

When I was at school there was lunch for sale or bag it and bring it. I think for middle class incomes that's the rule, but they don't ask for income, just that you sign the form asking for assistance.

However, to imagine that welfare benefits are for the middle class is an amusing argument I've been hearing from the so-called progressives. WIC, SNAP, and other goodies have never been characterized as "middle class" until the NEW DEPRESSION drove millions of middle class folks into the poor house.

To keep their pride intact and deflect blame for their predicament, politicians now say living on the edge of ruin and perpetual dependency is middle class.

Not a good sign for our future...
