have to admit, there has been a bit of internet myth built up recently about the infallibility of the magic words "am I being detained?" In other words they aren't magic at all.
The other day, I was pulled over. To put it in perspective, I have no plate on the front, my rear plate is obscured by a bike rack, and one headlight is out. Plenty of reasons to pull me over. The officer could at that point either give me a warning, write a fix it ticket, or waste a lot of my time with questions and try to come up with a reason for a search. I was just real nice to the guy and I got a warning.
If I got jacked up on youtube vidoes and went "am I being detained" he would probably have thought that I had a reason to think I should be detained. It would have gone downhill from there. Even worse if I had a warrant or a bag of pot or anything else in the car.
I'm just saying to be smart about it, if you act defensive you may activate their sense that you are a target.
