try anything by Stanislaw Lem

I am assuming you are looking for deep, insightful fiction, since you mention Kafka. Political commentary under communist regimes had to be hidden in deep allegory. Science fiction was the best vehicle for that. Lem was quite adept at it. Try Eden or Fiasco:
