You're correct about one thing.

The institution of marriage is a ordinance of creation, not specifically of Christianity. According to the Old Testament it was instituted several thousand years before Christ was born, in fact, it was one of the few institutions that existed before The Fall and Sin, so we have in it an archetypical example of how it should function, and thus we understand how it can be corrupted and abused.

P.S. - I find it a bit funny that people bitch about the church having $$$ yet don't hesitate to voluntarily surrender nearly half of their income so that politicians can screw prostitutes and Uncle Sam can make bodies hit the floor. Good old secular reasoning at its finest.
