"conservation" is often at odds with the rights of the natives

As the comment below argues, this is just a new form of imperialistic colonialism. If you care about the rights of native peoples, check out Survival International:

They don't accept any money from governments (or corporations which could violate native rights), and I applaud them for that.

EDIT: Ok, I shouldn't say always. Changed it to "often." There are many efforts under way that work with indigenous populations to preserve nature.
