As for Rand, others have said it already: support for Mitch is the price Rand has to pay for Mitch's assistance in the Senate and for access to Mitch's political machine, which could prove very useful in 2016. I'm not sure how he plans to keep up his end of the quid pro quo with Mitch without alienating the people supporting Bevin, but surely he must have realized when he first started dealing with Mitch that Mitch would probably have a conservative challenger this year. Anyway, however risky this pragmatic tightrope walking strategy might seem, it's the best shot for the liberty movement - and I'm feeling pretty optimistic about 2016.
