But the argument I was getting (and initially receptive to, for the record) is that newcomers might come and see negative things about Ron or Rand, and form a negative impression of them as a result (I'm summarizing and paraphrasing).

On reflection, this line of argument to me smacks of censorship and such "for the sake of the children" (where in this case the newcomers are akin to the children).

I really think we need to see and know what's out there. To fail to do so, to me, is tantamount to sticking our heads in the sand.
