Did you even bother to look at the poll or are you just going to stick your fingers in your ears and scream instead of facing the truth?
To some Sarvis voters, who were mostly young voters, McAuliffe would have been preferable to Cuccinelli. That's what the polls show.
One reason that I can think of why that would be the case is because Cuccinelli was successfully painted by the McAuliffe team as a theocrat, and some of the social issues where Cuccinelli took stern stands, such as abortion and gay marriage, are important issues to young voters (and they're generally on the other side of these issues than Cooch).
I know some of these young VA libertarians (I'm not one myself, I'm in my late 50's) and I can attest to the fact that these are the reasons why they voted Sarvis or didn't vote at all rather than for Cooch. Yes this is just a small sample size, but the polling data suggests that the Sarvis kids would not have voted for Cooch over McAuliffe.
