So from all these comments I pose a different scenario

Say Mark instead tried to give away a $100 dollar bill. He can say, "Would you like this piece of paper with Benjamin Franklin on it, I don't know what is worth being from Canada but I'll you can buy me some lunch for it." The people could look at it to confirm its authenticity or take it to the bank he is standing in front of to verify it is real. The truth is that many people would take him up on his offer if it was something like that because they would know what they were talking about.

This video demonstrates, above everything else that people don't understand precious metals. Sure some might think it is a scam, but again, if you offered a $100 bill, something most people are familiar with, they would be more than likely to purchase it at a discount knowing the value.
