I'm aware that animals will engage in abnormal behaviors when placed in certain conditions. Or if there is a medical condition. I know someone whose German Shepherd of many years for no reason attacked him; the man might be dead but for his wife grabbing a chair and managing to get the dog off him. It turned out the dog had some sort of aneurysm. If it was *normal animal behavior*, we wouldn't keep dogs as pets. I maintain that random acts of violence unrelated to survival is not a basic animal instinct.
FYI, ages ago I read Temple Grandin's biography (Emergence.) I feel badly that she was apparently given such flak from PETA types.
