Every dollar added to the government deficit is a dollar that flows into the private and foreign sectors, where it can potentially be used for our economic needs.

I call this the economics of spontaneous generation: the belief that government can magically conjure additional resources out of thin air. That is, it completely ignores the fact that whatever government spends into one part of the private sector it necessarily has to have taken from another part of the private sector: whether by normal taxation, inflation, confiscation, or other means.
