" Id still like to

" Id still like to 'vampirically' enjoy their arts with whatever tiny donation I can muster.. (its an Ayn Rand "thing" on altruism). "

Look up the actual definition of altruism, it doesn't mean charity, it means completely giving up your life so that others can have things. "Live for others". To be truly altruistic would mean that you wouldn't enjoy helping others, total self sacrifice.

Altruism is giving the neighbors child milk and letting your own child starve. This is what Ayn Rand was against, not charity.

Charity would be splitting the milk between both children and they both stay alive. Give what you can without sacrificing the things that you love.
