But it is a question of ethics, principles, morality

... not a question of utility or effects.

If this were 1840 and you and I were having a good chat about slavery... You would be saying "I have a hard time imagining a world of no slavery, as long as there is cotton and crops to be picked..."

But just first ask "is it moral, is it ethical?"

Is it ETHICAL to allow theft, kidnapping, and violence?

We can deal with the utilitarianism and pragmatism of it... AFTER we whole-heartedly reach a conclusion on the ethical question.

-----------

Slavery was wrong ETHICALLY, not because of the effects of slavery. Same with government.
