I'm surprised it takes a full article to sum that up

"Barack Obama will call for an end to the NSA’s warrantless collection of telephone metadata of Americans during a speech today, but his words will be completely meaningless given that the president has broken virtually every promise he’s ever made."
The End

It could also be a play on words. When did the content of calls and texts become "metadata"? Maybe it has always been, but maybe they don't collect "metadata" now or were planning to stop for their own reasons and it's just politically expedient to announce it as a big deal.

Either way, it's total crap and everybody knows it.
