What Noah had to work with was large straight grained timbers

If you had to build the largest vessel you could, with the least amount of labor from existing materials, it would seem logical that it would be round. No reason to navigate it, all it had to do was float and resist the water pressure. So the perfect form would be a semi sphere or sphere, the water pressure would pull the wood joints together, like a barrel. As the wood became wet it would swell and tighten up the joints more. Picture a fishing bobber, a huge upside down geodesic dome made from mature timbers, fastened at the bottom with pegged mortise and tenon joints.
