It is not about what the church says.

"Forget about what the Church has said. We were all built in God's image right? He created everything right? Well if those two things are true; everything is the way it is suppose to be."

Your if then is false. You do not understand the bible.
Every thing is not the way it is supposed to be.
The Serpent, Eve, then Adam screwed it up.
We are supposed to be without sin and in the garden of Eden.

Using that argument we would be free to run around acting any way we like, which we are, but without consequences? That is simply not the case.
