The problem is

if you start their punishment before they are found guilty of a crime then you are no better than they are. If the department is corrupt then we take them to court, personally, and punish them that way. Ruin their lives how they had planned to ruin yours. However, it is wrong of us to become the monster we fight simply because some ... er, lots ... of the guilty get off scott free. What next? Lock them up before trial? Execute them before trial? Aren't we fighting against this very thing?
