Used to be called.

"Rockefeller Republicans" as opposed to "Goldwater Republicans." After Nelson died, they were called by various names. RINO probably was the most common. The Goldwater branch allied itself to Nixon and Reagan. The conservative wing of the Democrat party, formerly allied with George Wallace, shifted to support Reagan. The Rockefeller branch became the Bush/CIA branch. They remained big government, foreign policy hawks, but gave lip service to the low-tax, smaller government base. Once it felt secure, it stopped doing that. After all, where were the Christian, Southern, conservatives going to go? So Bob Dole and John McCain and Mitt Romney all either insulted or ignored a big chunk of the party and lost.
I call them CIA Republicans. They all graduated from the same schools and know all of the secret handshakes. Obama is a CIA Democrat. John Kerry is another.
