If I were Rand I would endorse the old wind bag as well

It would be a politically amateur thing not to. And if it isn't obvious by now Rand is playing politics, and quite well for better or worse.

By endorsing Mcconnel Rand puts him in his back pocket and uses him as a shield against the establisment should McConnel win. He gets another ally in the senate should McConnel lose, all the while able to say he was playing ball. He did not undermine a fellow sitting republican. It's win win either way by endorsing McConnel. Going all in for his challenger, even if he wins the challenge, sets Rand back and puts him in a tough position trying to convince the rest of the party that he isn't a divider and trying to undercut them. I think he's playing it beautifully politically speaking. That said this whole political process Rand is engaging in leaves a bad taste in my mouth. When you lay down with the dogs you get fleas...

I don't think Ron or I would play that game and would just shoot straight and do what is right. I feel Rand is trying to do whats right as well, just in a more indirect politically perilous way.

"a compass, I learnt when I was surveying, it'll... it'll point you Truth North from where you're standing, but it's got no advice about the swamps and dessert and chasm that you'll encounter along the way. If in pursuit of your destination, you plunge ahead, heedless of obstacles, and achieve nothing more than to sink in a swamp... Whats the use of knowing True North?"

Ron goes straight through the swamp to reach the destination fully knowing he may very well sink in the swamp. but he didnt because we rallied around him and pulled him through because we believed in his cause and in True North.
Rand on the other hand, seeing how far his father got but still eventually getting stuck in the swamp, seems to see the wisdom in turning when appropriate, taking a more indirect route, around, over, under treacherous obstacles but always with an eye on the true destination and direction. Along his winding path he is picking up wayward followers led astray by false leaders. Despite all this careful twisting and turning Rand occasionally plows straight through the obstacles like his Father did when it counts. Will his path reach it's destination or will he too get confused lost and led astray by his winding path? Time will tell but I applaud what he's been able to do so far. He hasn't been perfect no and has made some mistakes along the way but am I ever impressed at how well he has done so far. I don't know who else among us who could thread the needle as well as he has. I will support him where our causes align and do my own thing where they dont and I wish him well.
