Look, shooting a man is violence.

That's just a fact. Right or wrong, moral or immoral, shooting a man is an act of violence by definition.

'I'm spanked and my kids are spanked and everyone is spanked and fine' does not justify spanking. As I have pointed out to other people, there are plenty of whole families that don't spank, and also turn out fine. This means that your family's violent practices toward children were arbitrary at best.

And if you want to teach a child about right and wrong, you have to actually teach them and have discussions about principles. Hitting them teaches nothing but how to find ways to avoid the pain. It also teaches them that when you're bigger and stronger than someone else, you can use force to get your way.
