I never thought about it, but that's a good analogy with life

When hand cutting a dovetail you have to start out exactly right and stay accurate, any little variance and the four sides won't align. If you're off a fraction there is no way to correct the mistake, you start over. So maybe in the old English grammar schools they were teaching the kids a valuable life lesson. Get it exactly right the first time, it's whole lot easier than having to start over.

I think there is a book title idea here, "The dovetail guide to business management" LOL
