What happened on page 313 wasn't just violent, drunken sex. It was rape.
I don't think the father should have gotten arrested, but I do think that rape is an issue that needs to be taken more seriously, and literature is one way to bring it out into the open and to encourage discussion. I don't want to continue living in our world, where we poo-poo rape as not that big of a deal (she shouldn't dress so provacatively, he shouldn't have gotten drunk, etc.) when there are millions of people getting raped every year.
