Speaking of fasting...

A diet that incorporates fasting into the diet itself is described in a book called "The Fast Diet." Apparently it was all the rage in Britain for a while, but never really caught on here.

Basically, on two days of the week, you reduce you calories drastically - to about 600 for each day. Of course you get hungry, but you can eat normally the next day. The primary benefit is weight loss, but wolfe's comment below, and just the general idea of calorie reduction leading to better immune health reminded me of this as well.
