Small problem

The constitution says no new state shall be formed from an existing state. (Yeah, I know about West Virginia. Things were even weirder back then.) There are only a couple of ways in which the constitution cannot be amended by a super-majority. This is one of them.

In order to pass a constitutional amendment allowing new Californias to spin off, it would take the approval of all 50 states, including the existing California. Danged unlikely.

If five of the new states are intending to secede, I reckon Mr. Obama would do a brisk Honest Abe on their butts.
