We've been conditioned to expect artificially cheap food

Because big agra business has been so clever ovear the years at driving production costs down with weird frankenfood innovations. The $1 hamburger, the $10 large pizza. Get real, that's only possible with mad science! You can easily see how just not spraying pesticides on plants makes them so much harder to grow, and therefore more expensive. Real food costs money. But, like our subsidized gas prices, we've gotten hooked to the artificially low prices. So everything normal and natural seems "expensive" by contrast.
