I enjoyed Mr. Williams' acting...particularly his role in "Good Will Hunting", but never really 'got' his standup stuff. It just wasn't my taste.
Most comedians seem to be tortured souls...look at Beluchi, Candy, Louis Anderson, etc. Their mental escape was through humor since they were in grade school. It seems, however, that 90%+ in the entertainment industry and particularly in Hollywood, are simply whacko...they're addicted to something (drugs, gambling, plastic surgery, etc.) or alcoholics. Everybody's on coke. Everybody's on spouse number 5. Everybody's on 34 doctor pills per day. I don't know what demons were crawling around under Robin's bed every night, but to me he took the chicken-shit way out of it. Apparently, he didn't learn much from all the rolls he played as counselor, mentor, advisor and cheerleader. Was he depressed because his new show sucked and got bad ratings? Could he just not handle being sober and the sad reality that is life in Amerika?
I don't know and I don't really care. He took the coward's way out and crushed his wife and families' lives. I will miss his acting ability to make me care about his character, but not him personally.
My 2 cents.
Silence isn't always golden....sometimes it's yellow.
