Ron Paul supporters, who are you guys?

A similar thread was originally started by MashTheGas but I guess it was lost with the server crash. It lasted a few weeks with a few hundred responses.

Who are you guys?

How old are you?
Where are you from?
What do you do?
What’s your political history?
What brought you to Ron Paul?

Answer as much or as little as you want. It's great to see what an eclectic group supports Ron Paul.

I am Canadian

I am a 33yo male living in Montreal. I run my own software business www.GenoPro.com. I was never interested in politics until I discovered www.Mises.org. I started educating myself about economics and history, I discovered Ron Paul. He is the only politician having my total respect. I am sure there may be other politicians with principle and integrity; however Ron Paul is the only one I know of. I am also proud to host Ron Paul interviews on my server on behalf of Scott Horton at www.weekendinterviewshow.com and www.philipdru.com.

Having Ron Paul as President would be great for us in Canada. Go Ron Paul!

What being a RP Supporter means to me...

I am a 36 year old American. I usually don’t vote and when I do its usually because I happen to be near a voting location anyway. The reason is not because I don't follow politics, but instead because politics never mattered to me. It never took me more than fifteen minutes to look over a candidates voting records and discover clearly that they where a politician first and a human being second. To me it never mattered republican or democrat because it always seemed to me that they would say anything to get elected and then do what ever they pleased regardless of their campaign promises. This led to a feeling of inevitability and futility thus the infestation of my political apathy. I didn’t challenge the issues when special interests paid our politicians to vote one way or another. I always felt that if they cared enough about the issue to protest and spend their time as an activist, then who cares if they get what they want as long as they didn’t impact me. Basically I decided to live and let live.

However, the status quo and special interests are beginning to hit home. I am paid more than ever before in my life and my standard of living is slipping. I fear my job because I can be replaced and my job out-sourced over seas. I now work on a team of ten people six of whom are foreign workers. Four of these foreign workers convert their money on websites from American dollars to their national currency the minute they get paid. They then send that money back home.

I recently invested in a Certificate of Deposit to hold some savings for a few months while I prepare to purchase something. During three months time holding the CD the price of the item I wanted raised well over the simple earnings of the CD. If I continued to hold the CD it would have lost even more value. To simply have my money retain its value I HAD to purchase something that would hold value.

I have a friend serving in Iraq. He is a true solider of the finest order. He would serve as long as he is needed and he will not complain. He will follow his orders and he would win the battle if it could be won. He is the one who told me about Ron Paul.

I know that a radical element of foreign interests have declared war on us as a nation. This does concern me and I want that problem addressed but I want a person of integrity addressing the problem and not a politician whose decision to attack a foreign country can possibly be swayed by special interests.

I suspect that there is a reason American voter turn out has been historically low. I believe it is simply because people like myself didn’t have a real choice until now. For the first time in a long time I have a candidate who believes what I believe AND this time I am paying attention. I care about the security of my nation but I know that terrorist will try to strike again. I know that we will try to stop them. What I fear more than a terrorist bomb is the government using it as an excuse to grab more power and protect me too much.

I have been checking out the candidates for the last few months. Now, I am one of the 25,000 new supporters of Ron Paul who donated on Dec. 16th. I have never even spoken of politics to my friends or family before much less actively supported a candidate. They like me usually don’t care about politics. Just wait until I tell them the good news about Ron Paul.

Good post

My nephew is being deployed to Iraq next month. He has become a Ron Paul supporter too. So, there goes another RP campaigner to the troops over there.

I pray he returns safely.

Well said, my friend. I'm all over the political map: Clinton '96, nobody '00, Badnarik '04. Never could focus in on my guy.

Now that it's Ron Paul, I'm all in.

My fiancee recently accused me of loving Ron Paul more than I loved her. The moment of hesitation put me in the doghouse.

You say that, I actually had the same thing happen about a week ago! Glad Im not the only one.

Good questions

The campaign should be asking these same questions and targeting ads or infomercials to specific audiences and states.

43 years old
Portland Oregon
Golf course owner (have been accused of being the "monied elite")
Staunch Republican since the age of 12
What brought me to Paul was his sincerity. The first time I met him was outside the door of the House floor. He was there for a vote but had a few minutes and took the time to come meet me. My own representative would not do that. That was the moment I thought this guy should be president. He is the representative of ALL the people. Isnt that what the president does?

Who, me?

Age: I'm 40 something
Birthplace: Rocky Mountains
Job: Founder and President of a sales corporation
Politics: Republican, til 2004 went Constitution Party ended up voting for Badnarik
Reason for Paul: Allergy to revenue service; Hyper-sensitivity to naziism; Bloating and Gas of Federal government;

What brought you to Ron Paul? Two of my friends who hate each other's guts both told me about the Doctor. I finally found a candidate who embodies my values... I can't believe it still... but if the doctor can do it, so will I.

Hopefully others will run and defeat the establishment as well. We need supportive Congress persons who will help implement the Doctor's presidential reforms.

What brought you to Ron Paul? The message! I don't agree with everything he says, but at least I know where he stands, Finally a politician who is honest! He says what he believes and he doesn't change his message depending on his audience. By the way, this is the FIRST time I have ever donated to any politician, the FIRST time I have ever had a bumper sticker (of any kind) on my vehicles, and the FIRST time I have ever attended a political rally (Meetup group last week). My wife is now a Paulite also!

Go Ron Paul!!!

What brought you to Ron Paul? You must be kidding me, I have been searching for him for 2 1/2 Milenium. I have one word of advice for all politicians. Stand out of my sunlight. I gave it to Alexander (the Pathetic) and he moved out of the way and marched on to build an empire. Ron Paul would never stand in my sunlight nor build an empire. He has my vote.

DAV for Paul

I am a 58 year old veteran of the VietNam "war" - disabled - with two masters degrees in history/political science and philosophy living just outside Jackson, Mississippi. I teach high school honestly . . . as opposed to the canned BS spewed out by the government under "No Child Left Alone". There are more young Ron Paul fans out here than you can possibly imagine. Freedom goes down smooth and easy with the young!

Do you think the young (voting age) Paul supporters will go to the polls on election day?

Why haven't we heard any news out of the National Republican Party HQ about a surge in registrations? I'm very concerned that these alleged young voters haven't actually gone and registered as republicans. Any ideas on this?

Thanks for sharing.

I'm a financially responsible person.

I'm a 39 year old hairstylist. I could break my hand tomorrow and be out of work for months. That fear is a good thing and has made me very financially responsible. Our gov't has been a horrible role model for Americans. The spending and borrowing is OUT OF CONTROL and I fear what that will bring. Ron Paul is the only candidate I would ever trust with my checkbook.

Where are you from? Washington, DC

What do you do? Systems Engineering Senior Manager

What’s your political history? Democrat in early life, considered becoming Independent a few times. Republican for past eight years. Was looking closely at the so-called Progressive wing of the Democratic party until I found Dr. Paul. I was hooked.

What brought you to Ron Paul? The truth and power in his message and the humility of the messenger attracted me to him. I began to research his voting record and participate in local meetups. Dr. Paul unites people through our shared humanity. Instead of race baiting, gay bashing, jingoism, etc. his devotees are more motivated to focus on the truth and logic of his message. In fact the social behavior of his devotees has also contributed to my support. He is bringing out the best in the electorate. His campaign is making us all more enlightened, educated, and activist and it has unleased spontaneous innovation and creativity. This cannot be stopped. I have never been as politically active as I am now. If there is ANY justice left in this world, Dr. Paul will be the next President of the United States. The father of our great nation. Bless each and every one of his supporters.

How old are you? 42
Where are you from? Midwest originally.
What do you do? Electronics engineer, self employed.
What’s your political history? none.
What brought you to Ron Paul? I deeply resonated with the Ron Paul message. The Mises Institute brought him to my attention several years ago.

I left the USA a little over one year ago and am making my American dreams come true - in the third world. I hoped the USA would return to the Constitution, but with the activities of this administration, I had no reason to believe this would happen in my lifetime. I think many folks have found in Ron Paul their own voice of dissent that was held in reserve.

I've been duped into voting Republican most years because of the "Christian values" they tote. I've lost complete trust of religious politicians, who wear God on their sleeve and use Him to get elected. (Rudy reads the Bible "regularly"... and believes every word?!)

We found the good doctor on the internet and were astounded at his goodness, integrity, transparency, principled & consistent voting record, personal convictions LIVED OUT. We have become politically involved for the first time in our lives - his character is golden (not perfect, just true & tested) and he is someone I TRUST.

Brilliant article that explains why we love Dr. Paul:
