Mod Suggestion Box

(Assuming the FAQ didn't help)

Comment here to notify mods
despite popular opinion, they are not omniscient,

Joη likes suggestions along the lines of "I wish the site could    ?   ."
Note: this is not the "front page x" or "please post x" or "let's keep arguing unrelated subject x" box.
The "mod" in the post title stands for either "modification" or "moderator".

You can turn the snow on or off by:

1. Going to "My Account"
2. Click the "Edit" Tab
3. Checking or Un-checking the box labeled "Holiday FX"
4. Click "Save" at the bottom

Or just click Here. And follow steps 3 and 4.

Could something like a post by State feature get extended to

other countries too. I realize this suggestion might be outside the scope of restoring constitutional government to the united States of America, but there are friends of liberty abroad that may benefit from a similar feature.
-Thanks

funny you should mention this.. I thought about making a top post about why I love to up vote. Decided maybe to do a little research before I do that.. I found this very interesting thread on inbound.org about moderators voting http://www.inbound.org/discussion/view/yes-us-moderators-can...

Of course it made me wonder.. do DP mods do this? Is this why voting is stealth on DP?

I just posted recently that one of the things that hurts me on DP is reading other posters lament, "Why the downvote?", and never get any answer.

I wish that voting was enabled with a comment.. It's apparent to me that there are people who come on DP to do nothing but downvote, which marginalizes and renders votes inaffective as there's nothing you can do about it but ignor the downvotes as just mean-spiteful- hatful cowardly opportunists (hows that for labels?) :D

Coming to DP and finding threads and posts that kneejerk me to up-vote is a good day on DP.

Disable upvoting your own stuff

Disable upvoting your own stuff, or have the system automatically upvote anything you create. (How it works on reddit. A site that knows a thing or two about upvotes)

Public upvote/downvote

Make comment upvote/downvote usernames public. Not retroactively though, those were made privately. The user may not have made the same consideration at the time thinking the action was public.

Please don't use the word fuck around here

Especially not in titles. There is an etiquette to this place that is different from others on the internet.

Thanks.

I changed your title and republished your thread.

Profanity

Spelled correctly or cosmetically altered is not welcome in titles.

Philosophy summary

There is a lot of great information on this site, but sometimes its hard to search. Makes me think if there should be a philosophy summary page somewhere with "best of" clips of Ron Paul, Peter Schiff, Stefan Molyneux, Lew Rockwell, Judge Nap, and info about our philosophy of liberty and Austrian economics. Just a thought.

"Gold is the money of kings; silver is the money of gentlemen; barter is the money of peasants; but debt is the money of slaves."

Philosophy Category

When posting a philosophical post, one does not have a good choice of category (in many cases) - politics/general or activism has been the fallback.

IMO, practical philosophy is an important part of this movement - probably the most important. Philosophy rules the world. How many people follow a Christian or Muslim philosophy?

If philosophy stays the same, change is never realized.

Can a philosophy category be added? (It's not quite as innovative as i-glasses, but probably more important)

.

It would be cool to see a section on the front page where members could pay to have a thread featured for an allotted period of time, in the same format as the regular front page.

It could operate much like the ad function. Perhaps you designate in the space beneath the regular up voted posts, titled "Paid User Content Section," of up to 5 or 10 posts. Users could then purchase one post in that area and be guaranteed it visible for up to one week. Charge say, $30-50.

The idea being that the majority of users likely treat the DP as a newspaper. Skimming the titles, watching the videos on the front page, not going much deeper into the forums where important info may lay.

Priced much less than ad's, but more than enough to keep people from posting frivolous things. It would be an automatic filter for what people really believe is very serious and in need of attention.

DP could reserve the right to deny anything offensive to the house rules.

It could easily generate a little bit more sustained revenue and be very helpful. I know I would use a feature like this.

Thanks.

Is it possible to embed .mp3 hosted on a website (say, like this) directly in a thread? If so, could you tell me how or point me in the right direction?

I tried a few different ways with no success. Didn't see it listed in the FAQ so I figured it may be disabled/unsupported or something.

Hi HatedoftheWorld

I just spent some time on sounddogs trying to see if it is possible. It looks like a no go from that site because there are no share options anywhere for any of the sounds. Which is too bad because it would be fun in the jam session.

That being said I am not the most tech savvy person and maybe just missed something, but generally speaking for embedding any audio files I find the sites usually have a 'share' option like on reverb, soundcloud, and bandcamp and they will give you the embed code. So if you find a share option over there somewhere see if you can find an html code.
You could always just link it like you did in the above comment also, not as fun, but still effective.

.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Just wanted to check.

Thanks for looking though!

Ability to block certain users from posting in my threads

please!

I am regularly posting things which could be considered "controversial" by some, and seeing my thread being bombarded by someone purely out to dis-inform, troll or discredit is an annoyance and a hindrance to real conversation.

Not that it is a big deal or anything

There was a post up here a few minutes ago talking about a certain person being a troll and changing their name.(It's been removed) I noticed the same thing with a couple of new members or new names. They decide they don't like someone and go through all their posts and comments and down vote them. They must have lots of time on their hands. Two days ago my reception graph was at 16.9 or 17. In a few hours time it dropped to 14.9. None of my new postings or comments had down votes that I could tell. They were going back through all of my old, old posts and comments and down voting everything. It's silly and some of the comments I've noticed are stupid things trying to incite fights. I forgot the names. I blocked one of the people a couple of days ago.

Michael - Pls Weigh In on the Presence of DisInfo Members...

*UPDATE* extra crispy CHANGED HIS NAME to 'crown victoria' - wonder why....

Hi all --

Recently I discovered that AnCapMercenary (among a few others I've seen in the last few days) are more and more likely to be Disinformation Trollers --

i think I did such a good job of ousting him/her that I would like michael or some other mod to review it and please weigh in, because if they ARE who i believe them to be.... why should they be allowed to continue ? or maybe everything should be allowed - it's not my site.

I would like to indict AnCapMercenary & extra crispy (now 'crown victoria')
(But this is just about AnCapMercenary for now)

I'd just like a review and some response:

Here is where I lay out MOST of my case about why i believe he is a DisInfo Dude:
Someone started a post about forming a "Trial by Forum".

I Present My Case.

The Back Story:
Here is where I post substance, and receive insult for the first time:

My Comment.

Here is where I go HARDER and ask him to provide his own views on specific topics:

More Directed Comment.

And one of my comments received too many trollish downvotes -- can i see the text of that comment again ?

These trolls can easily be found out - but i'll leave that strategy until i see a response :)
Thanks guys!

How about a separate "conspiracy" forum

where if one wants to comment on how to restore the republic while battling the joos, the shape shifting lizards, and the illuminutty, they can discuss things in that context. You could do a demonstrating how-to video on using the new forum, complete with acting by "crisis actors" to set them off talking. The advertisers would love it as they could target market things like barbie dolls and nibiru books.

When ever a reply coment is pushed

onto the 2nd or 3rd page of a post I can no longer see it from my account. I get a 404 or 403 error.

I do get a laugh from your words of wit on each 404 page but would like to see the comment.

Hate thread subject auto-uppercasing

Something that's been bothering me for quite a while, but couldn't find mention anywhere. I absolutely dislike the fact that when I create new thread with subject line, DailyPaul in its infinite wisdom enforces word capitalization (uppercasing) rules on me.

I type subject line to be:

LAX TSA MSM PROPAGANDA: 'Fiat Currency' = Patriot TERRORIST term!

DailyPaul comes back with nonsensical looking transformation on it:

Lax Tsa Msm Propaganda: 'fiat Currency' = Patriot Terrorist Term!

Why? Even when I edit the thread to put back the subject the way I wanted, it persists and comes back looking like in its garbage form. This is crazy. How do I tell it to leave it alone & stop messing with it enforcing these canned capitalization rules?

Unfortunately it had to be done.

It isn't the most option-offering filter but it was necessary to keep annoying unnecessary ALL CAP TITLE insistence at bay, and to somewhat aid in keeping every forum topic from saying BREAKING!!!!!!!!!!!!, OMG!, etc...

Repeatedly having to edit all cap titles that didn't really need to be in all caps with eleventeen exclamation points became tiresome for all of us because it was impossible to keep up with at times.

I've found that the way it works, you can get a decent title, with limited caps and punctuations, but it does take some toying with and previewing to see if its form holds.

You don't really even have to preview, just type your title, then put your cursor down in the text box, you'll be able to see right then if the title form held.

OK

Fair enough. I'm obviously not thrilled about this, but realize there may not be a single solution to satisfy all.

What I don't understand though: I notice some other people able to not have thread titles is such capitalization format. Just looking at some recent topics, I notice titles like below.

CNN scoops active shooter at mall.
PayPal, eBay May Soon Start Accepting Bitcoin
Rather unique view of the 2nd plane on 9/11

How did they manage to beat filter rules? Surely, it would've looked very bad to see proper name "eBay" transformed into "Ebay".

In the past, I used to be able to re-edit, changing titles to capitalize the way I wanted & they were accepted. Has something changed recently, that it has become very stubborn & rejects all my attempts? [Considering all example titles posted above are very recent, this theory has holes too.]

I did try your suggestion BTW, "put your cursor down in the text box, you'll be able to see right then if the title form held". But no use. No matter how many times I tried, it stubbornly rejected my input. Such wasn't the case before.

Anyway, it's now more of curiosity question for me than frustration. Minor things like these aren't worth putting up fight for, with only marginal benefits.
